Semiotic Forms

Back to Projects
This poster series explores how hierarchy, repetition, scale, rhythm, and spatial organization influence visual communication. Developed through research, observation, and iterative experimentation, the project investigates how visual order can shape perception and guide attention.

The series combines typographic exploration with studies of real-world organizational systems to better understand balance, contrast, and compositional structure.
Observational Studies

Before developing the final posters, the project began with a series of visual order studies using everyday objects and natural materials. These exercises explored how arrangement, repetition, color, shape, and scale influence visual hierarchy and perception.

Objects were organized and photographed according to different systems, including:

  • Color relationships
  • Material qualities
  • Size variation
  • Shape similarities
  • Volume and density
  • Repetition and rhythm
The studies included:

Objects were organized and photographed according to different systems, including:

  • Assorted pasta organized by shape and form
  • Sausage packaging categorized through color and proportion
  • Rings grouped by material and texture
  • Stones arranged by scale and tonal variation
  • Seeds organized through pattern, density, and color relationships
Concept Ideation

The poster series evolved through multiple hand-drawn sketches exploring composition, hierarchy, and typographic structure. Early concepts focused on experimenting with movement, tension, layering, and visual balance.

Through iterative refinement, the sketches became the foundation for the final digital compositions.
Packaging Systems

An observational study analyzing hierarchy and categorization through color, scale, and packaging structure.
Material & Texture Exploration

Objects grouped by material and surface qualities to study rhythm, contrast, and visual cohesion.
Hierarchy

An exploration of scale, contrast, and placement used to direct attention and establish visual rhythm within the composition.
Tension

A study of asymmetry, spacing, and structural imbalance designed to create movement and visual energy.
Semiotics

An experimental composition investigating how symbols, typography, and abstraction communicate layered meaning beyond literal interpretation.
